COLLECTION OF YORUBA ORISHAS

Not to diss on Northern European mythologies but can we seriously have some fuckin’ recognition that there are religions and mythologies that are not Greek? Why the fuck did I learn about the Greeks 6 times but we never fucking talked about Africa or Central America or South America or Asia or even really the mythologies and beliefs of Native peoples of North America?

1. The photorgrapher is James C. Lewis and he has the entire set of photos on his website.

2. I recommend Santeria: The Religion, Faith, Rites, Magic by Migene González-Wippler (an anthropologist and practitioner of Santeria herself) for anyone wanting a start on reading about the Orishas. The book itself focuses on how the faith grew and spread in Latin America, but it’s still a fountain of information. I need to either get my own copy or discreetly make off with my dad’s again…
